'Narrative Illustration' - Assignment #6 (Sketch)

The next task for 'Narrative Illustration' is to illustrate a song lyric of our choosing.  My choice is, "The world is a vampire," from the Smashing Pumpkins song 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings.'  The sketch below will be completed in color for next week.

'Head Drawing' - Week 12

The drawing below was completed earlier today in about 2-3 hrs.  It was a pretty easy pose for the model as she got to sleep all day! :)

Paul Frank Art Attack! Contest

I have been a fan of Paul Frank since I was in high school, so I was very excited to see the posters for 'Paul Frank's Art Attack' when they went up in the Academy of Art building I am in on Mondays.  It is an art contest that asks artist to create a piece that incorporates the Paul Frank characters in their own style.

Regular readers will recognize my piece from the sketch posted previously.  Finalists will be chosen based on votes so in a few days, make sure to check HERE to vote for my art!!

'Situation & Environment' - Week 11

This week saw the completion of the on-class painting which we have been working on for a total of 3 class sessions.  My finished piece can be seen below.  The model was wearing a small cap with feathers and veil which made for an interesting challenge!

Springtime Bunny

The Easter bunny (aka mom) this year included a small plaster bunny in my basket along with some paints to decorate him.  Since he is a shy bunny, I painted him to blend into a springtime field so he can enjoy the sun!  Can you see the ladybug on his foot?

Found Art #2

To follow-up the mermaid posted 1/24/12, this paint splash can be seen on the sidewalk on Frederick St. near Kezar stadium in San Francisco.  To me, it looks just like an elephant spouting water out of its trunk. The eye (upper left quadrant) is actually a piece of guy smushed flat.

'Head Drawing' - Week 10 (Part 1)

Last Friday in 'Head Drawing' we did some variations on style while listening to four different style versions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."  The four musical styles were jazz, pop, rock and techno.  Can you tell which is which?

'Head Drawing' - Assignment #3 (part 2)

The second part of this assignment was to draw for head from a movie.  For the movie I chose David Lynch's 1984 "Dune" and the drawing below is my favorite of the four.
