Mail Art Monday*

Some friends of mine were recently married so I decided to include some advice on the piece of mail art I made to send their card.  (Oh how I love advertisements from the 60's)

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

*I know that technically today is Tuesday but these files made it very clear to me they were NOT to be uploaded yesterday.

I do not work on a sketch once I leave a location and prefer to leave them unfinished to be a more accurate record of the time spent there.  Sometimes a sketch will develop into another more developed piece later on but for me the main purpose of sketching is to help me remember an experience.

Sketching the Doggy Diner Heads

I had a great time with the SF Sketcher's Meet-up group last Sunday sketching at the 'Fiesta on the Hill' in Bernal Heights.

I spent most of the time drawing the 3 Doggy Diner heads on display.  It was a lot of fun watching peoples reactions and hearing people reminisce while sketching.  They all received lots of kisses on their noses!

This is as far as I was able to take the sketch on location but am thinking about adding some ink and
color.

I love how the different amounts of wear gives each head a unique personality, which would be fun to express with color so stay tuned!

SF Correspondence Co-op Artistamp

Last month I had the pleasure of designing the artistamp for August's meeting of the SF Correspondence Co-op.  The group meets for mail art fun once a month and a new artistamp is issued at each meeting, which members collect in these awesome little stamp passports made by Jennie Hinchcliff of Red Letter Day.

My artistamp was created from the original watercolor painting with hand lettered text.

The painting was then reduced and duplicated across a sheet for printing.  I then used the "stamp" Fiskars Paper Edgers to cut out each stamp.

The final stamp cancelled in a passport!

Throwback Thursday with Chicken Turkey!

I made this sculpture of a turkey for a project to create a chimera.   It is composed entirely of 'chicken' things, including ground chicken, chicken cold-cuts, eggs, vienna sausages and chicken bouillon.
