Happy Birthday Sherrill!

May 20th would have been my mother-in-law's 72nd birthday.  In her honor, my husband and I spent the day with his father and brother (+ wife & son) planting flowers in her honor.  To commemorate the day, I painted her name and the date on the side of the planter and the result of all our combined work is below.

We miss you Sherrill!!

'Narrative Illustration' - Assignment #1 (Version 2)

The final task for 'Narrative Illustration' was to re-do any project from the semester to improve.  I chose to revisit the first assignment to illustrate a cliche and found better reference for the donkey.  I also changed mediums and completed the following piece in water color and color pencil rather than acrylic and oil paints.

'Situation & Environment' - FINAL Assignment

I have been working hard on this for awhile and I am SO happy to be done!  Still working on technique for photographing a shiny surface and will replace the image as I take better photos for final submission.

'Head Drawing' - Week 14

Last Friday I began my final in-class piece for head drawing.  I began with a monochromatic underpainting which I am planning to glaze over next week to create the flesh tones.  This is a process known as 'verdaccio,' which was often employed by the pre-ninteenth century 'Old Master' painters.
